Welcome to Belbroughton Primary School

Teaching and Learning at Belbroughton School

At Belbroughton School we aim to help pupils to develop lively, enquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills.
In English we follow the National Literacy Strategy.

"....pupils' literacy skills are fostered well, both by the work in the literacy hour and in separate spelling and reading sessions." (Ofsted 2001)

We are particularly proud of our team of parents who read with children, either individually or in groups, each morning.
In addition children are expected to read at home daily and they have weekly spellings to learn as part of their homework.

The basic content of the Mathematics taught at Belbroughton follow the National Numeracy Strategy.
We aim to foster an enjoyment of Mathematics for its own sake and enable children to develop Mathematical skills appropriate to life.

"Standards in Mathematics exceed the expected levels......pupils achieve well in Numeracy throughout the school." (Ofsted 2001)

We believe the teaching of Science should be an exciting process and that children learn best through first hand experience. Our Ofsted inspection confirmed that students in this subject are well above average across both key stages.

Pupils also exceed national capabilities in ICT (information and Communications Technology). We teach ICT as a subject in its own right, but also seek to integrate it into other subjects. We have good resources, including Interactive Whiteboards.

The remainder of the Foundation Subjects met with this positive comment from Ofsted in 2001 - "The school provides a broad, balanced curriculum relevant to pupils age and experience .....All elements of the National Curriculum are met."
